Why unwashed salt is better for health and skin care
Many salts including sea and Mizzi’s salts have a lot of beneficial minerals. Although some of these minerals like calcium are the first to form and separated from the brine, most minerals stay in the salt. Usually in many salt operations the salt is washed to clear out any seaweed, insects and if formed inland from ancient underground brine they wash out any clay, sand or other plant materials.
So the first question that pops to mind is what is the problem with this? Well the problem is that many of these trace elements are the first to form in the salt process and the first to go, since many of them are the first to dissolve in the wash water. This leaves the salt dead inside since most of the beneficial trace elements will be washed away. Many of the foods we eat nowadays lack these trace elements from over farming, so this unwashed salt can supplement you with these nutritious minerals even when used for skin care since many are absorbed through the skin. Of course the ancient underground brine is not polluted with the plastic micro particles as our oceans are polluted with billions of tons of these very tiny plastic particles which get ingested by the body and possibly stored in fat tissue. So sea salt must be washed to clear some of these pollutants. The ancient inland Mizzi’s salt might have some clay in it since its usually done in clay salt pans but even this clay could be beneficial both when ingested and used for skin care like the Sel Gris (Gray Salt) that comes from France.
